Children are literally searching for a needle in a haystack. There’s no real straw on the table of course, but stacks of hay cards in which lots of different things are hidden. Not just a needle but animals are waiting to be discovered too. By offering a piece of their favourite food you can entice the farmyard residents away from your opponents. Children search the haystack just like they are searching through straw: they can either try to turn the cards over with a pitchfork or throw new cards up from the stack to reveal them. As the haystack grows ever larger, the excitement grows with it until finally the needle is found. It’s remarkable how exciting and lifelike this haystack search can be.
